Where do Tenable, Rapid7 and Palo Alto Networks stand on exposure management in 2026?
SHORT ANSWER
Tenable, Rapid7 and Palo Alto Networks each sell attack surface management inside a larger platform: Tenable One, the Rapid7 Command platform and Cortex. Their pages describe joining external data with internal vulnerability and asset data and automating remediation; exploit testing for the ASM products is not described. Recent announcements centre on AI and cloud validation. This note covers announcements from March to September 2026.

What does each platform describe?
- Tenable One. Tenable Attack Surface Management draws on an attack surface map of more than 5 billion assets with 200+ metadata fields and feeds Tenable One, which adds attack path analysis across 150+ techniques and Hexa AI automated remediation workflows.
- Rapid7 Command platform. Surface Command combines external discovery with a unified internal and external asset inventory (EASM plus CAASM), next to Exposure Command, InsightVM and InsightCloudSec. Remediation workflows, SLAs and reporting are listed for higher tiers, and there is a public trial.
- Tenable One packages. Tenable One is sold as Foundation and Advanced, both by quote; Advanced lists orchestrated remediation through manual or automated ticketing.
- Palo Alto Networks Cortex. Cortex Xpanse scans the full IPv4 space several times a day, by Palo Alto Networks' account, and acts through Active Response playbooks, with Cortex XSOAR and Prisma Cloud alongside. Palo Alto Networks cites being a Leader in The Forrester Wave: Attack Surface Management Solutions, Q3 2024.
What did they announce in 2026?
- 19 March 2026, Rapid7: runtime validation and data security posture management for Exposure Command, aimed at showing which cloud vulnerabilities are exploitable and which sensitive data they expose.
- 4 August 2026, Tenable: exposure management coverage extended to Google Gemini alongside Claude, ChatGPT Enterprise and Copilot, and to Model Context Protocol deployments and AI-native developer tools.
- 8 September 2026, Tenable: Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 to be integrated into the Tenable One Exposure Management Platform, starting with Tenable One Adversary View.
Our sources contain no dated 2026 announcement about Cortex Xpanse.
What do they not describe?
On the pages we read, exploit testing is not described for Tenable Attack Surface Management or Cortex Xpanse, and active validation is not described for Surface Command itself. WAF posture is not described by any of the three.
When does a platform fit?
When you already run the vendor's vulnerability management or security operations tools, need internal and external assets in one place, and your gap is joining data rather than proving exposures. When proof or WAF posture is the gap, a specialist that connects to your platform may fit better. See Building on the security platform you already own.
How does the finder treat platforms?
Choosing one of these platforms as your current tool adds points to exposure management platforms and 4 points to that platform's own product. The tenable-shop and rapid7-onprem example profiles show the effect.
